Mmm, Barf!

Clearly, I'm latched on to the Halloween bandwagon. I'm still talking about it. Time to shift my focus from Halloween to Winter Solstice.

I threw an H-Day party on the weekend and made this fun centerpiece/appetizer... a pumpkin barfing-up guacamole! (In case you are confused, those tortilla chips are dyed red). I swear I found this link AFTER I created my centerpiece (they look so much alike!). For my barf--I mean guac--I used my go-to Simple Guac recipe, but if you are looking for a fancier version, I've included my Gourmet Guac recipe too.

Super Simple Guac

2 soft avocados (they should be black on the outside and slightly soft when you give them a light squeeze)
2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice (I prefer lime)
1/4 teaspoon sea salt (or to taste)

Mash the avocados with the other ingredients. It's as simple as that. Make one hour before serving to let the flavors blend, but no longer because the avocados will oxidize and turn brown. Serve with tortilla chips and salsa, spread in sandwiches, add to burritos, or top in on tacos.

Gourmet Guac

2 soft avocados
2 tablespoons lemon or lime juice
2 cloves of garlic, minced
1/4 teaspoon sea salt AND black pepper
2 teaspoons cumin
Pinch of cayenne pepper
1/2 of an onion, diced
1/2 of a tomato, diced
1/2 cup of cilantro, finely chopped

Same directions as written above.

  1. I'm not a huge fan of the gross or gruesome, so I'm afraid I couldn't enjoy your halloween treat--as creative and as healthy as it may be.

  3. Sorry, Momma M. I couldn't resist being gruesome this Halloween :P

Yes, my guests totally gobbled it up. Not a crumb remained. They also ate almost all my cupcakes, just a handful remained.
